Piece of cake in Lightwave -- as long as your magnifing glass is modeled
correctly, just turn on Trace Refraction, since it is a refracive
effect.  I've done this before, and it's worked fine.  I believe there is
a LWPro dealing with it, too.

Oh, a BG image won't work, since it exists infinatly distant from the
lens.  The planar map described above should work perfectly fine.
